While the group who went in pairs had a higher overall heart rate, the increase in heart rate was higher for the isolated subjects, supporting my hypothesis. In addition, the respiration rate also had a higher increase in isolated subjects. As such, it is logical to conclude that solitude causes a more prominent fear response than when people are allowed to be with others. It is possible that simply being alone can trigger this response, and I would like to test that in the future. I would also like to test other factors such as familiarity on such a response.
